Library Things

Library things is really neat. It has more of an adult fell to me. I do not think a lot of teens would like it. For my library it does not seem needed. We already have an on-line catalog, but for a smaller library it would be great. I did add it to my blog. It did take me a little time to do so.

Wrap up

I have looked forward to every lesson. Most of this has been new to me. I did like most of the lessons. I do need to check out Delicious at home. I did look fun. I also will go back and look at other lessons for a reminder.

It is important that library's keep up with the changing times. It is hard to do, but if we want the children and teens to turn off the TV and get in to a good book we need to keep up.

I found the links in this lesson very informative and will be checking them often.

I would like to spend some time of my work day checking on other libraries and there news. Find out what is going on in other libraries and the world.

Wiki's

I really think wiki's are going to end up everywhere. It is a great tool for libraries. I don't know if it would be better then a blog. Our if a library would want to have both. A wiki will be a good way to pull more teens in. With the older kids, the more tech you are the better. In a lot of ways a blog will be better for even book list. With a wiki the library would have no say before a person put it on line for everyone to see. This could be a big problem for a library of my size.

I think a wiki would be great if you could set it up to be looked at before it is posted. I also do not like the look of most wiki's. They are very plain and boring looking.

The ? is. Is a blog of a wiki better? or Do they both have there place?

Does a library need to have both? Or do you pick one and hope the teens come.

Tagging

I get the idea of this lesson and understand how it works. But I could not add Delicious to my computer. It would be a great way to be able to have all your favorites on all the computers you us and in the different branches. The only problem I see is that you would have to have one just for work. And only have work sites on it. One my run into a problem at work if you where saving fun sites on your work computer for everyone to see.

Social Networking

Having a Facebook and or Myspace acount for your library can be fun. It would be a good way to bring in the teens. Let them know what is going on in your library and what is new to read. It would take alot man hours to keep up with it all. If a library plans on having an account someone would have to keep up with it. The teens are not going to come if it is not up to date.

For myself I never have even looked at these sites before. I have heard about them, but do not have the time or desire to be on them ( for myself). I heard a newscast just today saying that someone can steal your ID by just your pic and info on these sites. We need to be careful about what we but on these sites and who we let see them.

Now that I have said that. I did get on Facebook and found my friend from college that I never see along with my brother and sister. That was cool.

Google Docs

I can really see these benefiting the library as it would any work place. It would not take long and this is some thing that can be used. Anything you would put in a word doc that you want everyone to edit or add to it. One would have to be careful not to put every thing on google docs, but it can have its place in the library. I can see how it would be nicer then having to e-mail every time. I also like the templets. I am only so so with starting a spread sheet. The spread sheets will come in handy.

The only problem will be getting everyone to use it.

podcast

WOW! How much fun is this. It will be a great way to show the world your puppets show and story times. It was a little hard to figure out how to get the video on the blog. I had to go the the help area and then ask someone else. Once I learned how to do it, it is really easy.
